A Gray Dove - Copyright (C) 6/24/08 by Dan Sharpe.

She shuffles through the old routine,
down alleys, stale, and mean,
a hero of a former day,
all her children flown away.

In her faded, fraying robe, she reclines,
in a chair of a thousand memories,
reliving life's inexorable decline,
she escapes today's lonely miseries.

A hero of a former day,
now her life has turned to gray,
yet she waits the coming day,
when she can finally fly away.
